Creative Kids is an established arts education charity that works in an extreme area of deprivation in the South of England.  Social entrepreneur, Cary Lightfoot founded the organisation in May 2008 to address economic disparities between class groups accessing the arts. The idea was to use the arts as a driver of social change and close the attainment gap for children in Bournemouth.

The Charity consists of three Trustees, which make up the Management Committee and the Founder manages the Charity on a day-to-day basis. Our Arts Education Centre in Boscombe is sponsored by The Sovereign Centre. Funders have included, The Arts Council, The Talbot Village Trust The Big Lottery, The Southwest Foundation and Cash for Kids. We work in partnership with Boscombe Regeneration and have developed strong links with 7 local Schools.

We offer wrap around child care to working parents and support those most in need by offering a subsidised rate to parents claiming benefits. We use digital technologies such as iPads to help children overcome barriers to learning and have successfully taken 57 children through an Arts Award since 2012.

The Sovereign Centre named us ‘Charity of the Year 2014’. We won the Cash for Kids Children’s Charity of the Year in 2015 and have been awarded the very prestigious Queens Award an MBE for Volunteers at Buckingham Palace in June 2016.

Our Head Office is based in New Milton, Hampshire. We are open from 10 am – 5 pm. We offer office-based volunteering opportunities, work placements, apprenticeships and seasonal festival work.
